Great New Gadgets for Work and Play

UP IN FLAMES Last winter, you bought that fancy fire pit and began moving your parties outdoors; now it's time to prepare for summer and fall. The Cal Flame G3100, with its sports bar entertainment package, must be the ultimate barbecue. It's a bar with seating for eight and comes with three 20-inch LCD popup television sets with built-in surround sound, a super CD/DVD/AM-FM stereo system, a refrigerator with optional beer tap, a cocktail center with stainless steel sink, and—oh, yes—a barbecue grill with five burners. Put it out by the swimming pool and invite the neighborhood over. From $29,995. www.calspas.com

GO FISH A nice addition to any home or office is an aquarium. The Ocean Treasures Aloha Tiki aquarium, made right here in Florida, offers a suitable theme for our Florida lifestyles. Each aquarium is handmade, stands about two feet tall and is numbered and signed by the artist. Several models are available. And if you want a freshwater aquarium, there's the River Treasures collection. Each comes with everything but fish: a museum-quality coral reef sculpture, advanced filter system, compact lighting, a 25-watt heater, synthetic salt and real sand. $429. www.oceantreasurescollection.com/alohatiki.htm

FORE! Now that the USGA allows GPS distance measuring devices, you can play by the rules with the GolfLogix GPS, shown earlier this year at the PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando. The waterproof, battery-operated unit fits in the palm of your hand when needed or rides along with your clubs. Using satellite signals and internal mapping, it knows where you are at all times, as well as how far away you are from hazards and holes. And it contains Garmin maps and will be sold by ForeFront at 10,000 outlets for $349 with one course of your choice. www.golflogix.com

SPIN CYCLE Samsung wants to turn the washing machine into a work of art. It recently introduced an intelligent refrigerator that allows anyone to leave video messages ("Hi, mom. I'll be at Cindy's."). Now famed Korean designer Andre Kim has created a machine for Hauzen, Samsung's luxury line, which sports a real gold plated finish, stainless steel door ring, and a royal emblem on the glass. There's no price tag yet, but if you have to ask, then buy a Maytag. You can read about the core washing machine from which the Hauzen was created at www.samsung.com/me/products/washingmachine/frontloading/wd6122cks.asp.
