AMPHIBIOUS CRUISER Some wealthy baby boomers are cashing out and purchasing massive motor homes, not even blinking at prices above $1 million. But a luxury coach and a houseboat at the same time, in the same vehicle? Made by Cool Amphibious Manufacturers International, the Terra Wind can cruise any interstate, turn off on a dirt road-and then plunge right into a lake and cross it. Inside, the Terra Wind is pure luxury, from its GPS system to its 600-watt stereo system. A base Terra Wind motor home is $850,000. The model shown here is $1.2 million. See it to believe it. www.terrawind.com/terrawind
NOW YOU SEE IT Older readers probably have a negative stereotype of tattoos, but that's certainly not true of today's young adults. Tattoos are more common now than body piercing. If your youngster thinks one might be in order, then this tattoo pen might be acceptable. One of several on the market, it's found on shelves of popular toy stores. It functions much like the real pens used by tattoo artists, some with a vibrating tip, but the ink is washable and the "art" is not permanent. So if you don't love "Lucy" tomorrow, you can wash her name off your bicep. About $20. Check out www.character-online.com.
DESKTOP DISTRACTION You can't go anywhere today without being confronted with claw machines that once were confined to county fairs. Pop in two quarters (sometimes four!) and use a handle to move a miniature crane bucket over the stuffed animals that few seem to be able to pick up. At restaurants, you'll often see people standing in line to feed money into these machines. Yes, you'd like to have a full-size one to hold all the stuffed toys in the kids' room, but a desktop model for candy will have to do. And the desktop ones, thankfully, take provided tokens, not your last quarter. It's $34.98 and can be ordered online at www.findgift.com.
BLUETOOTH JEWELRY It's difficult to look attractive with a Bluetooth earpiece stuck in one ear and a microphone piece jutting from a cheek. Men, of course, think they look like an Arnold android with a wireless earpiece in place all day. Women won't buy that look. Thankfully, Plantronics, Motorola and other companies are beginning to design good-looking technology for fashionable women. Motorola was first to give us pink cell phones and has since sold more than 664,000 of them. Now Plantronics has combined the wireless needs of Bluetooth with jewelry, to create a necklace/earphone/microphone. It should be available by the time you read this, but has not yet been priced.
