ACCOLADES

The winners of the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce's 2006 Frank G. Berlin Sr. Small Business Awards were Willis A. Smith Construction, Small Business of the Year; Grapevine Communications, Young Business of the Year; TV Net Media Group, Minority Business of the Year; Betsy Nelson of Metro Coffee & Wine, Woman Entrepreneurial Excellence Award; and Dr. Anne Chauvet of Veterinary Neuro Services, Young Professional of the Year.

The winners of the Venice Chamber of Commerce's 2006 Business of the Year Awards were Tervis Tumbler, Large Business of the Year; EcoWater Systems, Small Business of the Year; Gulfside Mortgage Services, Medium Business of the Year; and Mental Health Community Centers' Beacon House, Nonprofit Business of the Year.

The winners and honorees at the Sarasota Convention and Visitors Bureau's National Tourism Week Breakfast were Howard Tibbals, "Voice of Sarasota" honor for The Tibbals Learning Center at the Ringling Museum of Art; Patricia Caswell, former executive director of the Arts Council of Sarasota County, Tourism Leader of the Year; Teresa Blanco, general manager of Timberwoods Vacation Villas, Guest Service Excellence Award for Management; Betty Mathews, service director for the Broken Egg Restaurant, Guest Service Excellence for Front Line; and Marion Allen of the housekeeping department of the Hyatt Sarasota, Guest Service Excellence for Back of the House.

Dave's Auto Repair, Babe's Ace Hardware and Plumbing and Suncoast Defensive Driving School received the first certifications for environmentally friendly business practices from Sarasota County's Green Business Partnership.

Southeastern Communication Service of Sarasota restored a NEXRAD tower at the Andersen Air Force Base in Guam and completed the wireless components of an updated tracking system for Port Manatee.

Creative Arts Unlimited received the Architectural Woodwork Institute's award of excellence for its work on the Bishop Planetarium.

MOVING AND OPENING

Regions Financial Corp. merged with AmSouth Bancorporation under the name Regions.

SMR Farms launched their new Web site, www.smrfarms.com, designed by GravityFree.

Regions Bank and Morgan Keegan & Company joined forces to create Regions Morgan Keegan Private Banking, with their first facility located on St. Armands Circle.

Little Bookworms opened at 8111 Lakewood Main St., Suite 103, Bradenton.

Harmony Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center opened at 2600 Courtland St., Sarasota.

Freedom Bank will open a new branch in November at the San Marco Plaza in Lakewood Ranch.

SKY Sotheby's International Realty opened new locations at 1307 S. Tamiami Trail, Osprey; and 4134 Gulf of Mexico Drive, Longboat Key.

De Morgan Communities corporate office relocated to 700 Eighth Ave. W., Unit A, Palmetto.

James D. Shortt, M.D., P.A. opened an office at 528 48th St. Court E., Bradenton.

Cars Magazine opened a satellite office in Sarasota and launched its new Web site, www.carsmagazine.com.

Prudential Palms Realty opened an office at 7750 S. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota.

Horizon Real Estate Advisors brokered the sale of Sarasota Towne Center, located at Fruitville and Honore Roads, to Benderson Development Company for $15 million. They also brokered the sale of the Hampton Inn in Venice, which is now owned by Heartland Venice Partners, for $13 million.
