From the Editor

Last year, at our first Unity Awards celebration, a partnership between Biz(941) and La Guia magazine, we brought together more than 150 people of diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds. Many had never been in one room together before, and the energy and power of that meeting was palpable. We honor the people in our community who are bringing us together—not just in one room, but through business, not-or-profit and other kinds of leadership. Our winners see the value in helping to incorporate individuals of diverse color, nationality and heritage—many of them the disenfranchised and disadvantaged—into our American democracy, which works best when it combines the talents of a kaleidoscope of people.
